TDL Goofy's Paint 'n' Play House" Artwork

You've seen yesterday some pictures and videos of the new Goofy's Paint 'n' Play House" that opened last friday at TDL Toon Town. The exterior design of the house looks perfect for a Goofy house and the house itself was already there - they just changed the interior for the new interactive attraction. But when i saw it i knew it reminded me something... Sure, the same Goofy house was previously built at Disneyland Anaheim Toon Town but, going back to one of my previous article in tribute to former WDI Imagineer Hani El Masri that i've posted four years ago i found back Hani's original concept that WDI used for this Goofy's Paint 'n' Play House".

You can see at the top Hani's original artwork and below two others pictures provided by Hani which look like pictures of a model but they are in fact are showing a collectible item of the Goofy's house that was released at Disneyland when Toon Town opened.

But, according to Hani, the TDL Goofy's house version is closer to his original concept. Apparently, at TDL they got it right with the house tower that you can see behind the front on the top picture of yesterday's article. Hani also did for Toon Town the concept that you can see below for Minnie's House which was also built both at DL and TDL.

TDL Toon Town New Attraction Goofy’s Paint ‘n’ Play House Video

Goofy's Paint 'n' Play House" is a new attraction at Tokyo Disneyland Toontown which opened three days ago and i've got some videos of it for you! This is definitely an attraction for young children but adults can have some fun too!

Once inside Goofy’s Paint ‘n’ Play House you'll get a “paint”-shooting applicator called a "Toontone Splat Master" with which you'll be able to redecorate Goofy’s room. "You push a button, turn a handle or pull a string to make different colors of what seems like real paint fly out toward the walls and floor of the room. And yes, guests work together to make it happen. And the attraction also features theme options, like “beach” or “jungle,” to help with your remodeling".

Sounds cool? Sure, but once you've seen it the question is: how does it work? Because, may be it don't looks like but there is some pretty smart Imagineering technology behind all this. From what i've understood everything in the room, desk, armchair, etc... is in fact like a blank screen, except that instead to be a flat screen on which you could "paint", it's all 3D screen. Then, the computer identify where you're are pointing your "Toontone Splat Master" and the chosen color appear instantly. Sound simple, but a few years ago it was still impossible. Of course the kids are playing with this a bit too hysterically and don't take their time to use the technique in a more subtle way but, still, the tech behind it is amazing!

Below, a WDI rendering released some months ago and then pictures of the real thing.

And now, let's have a look at this "live" with two videos just posted on Youtube.

Goofy’s Paint ‘n’ Play House to open Aug 24 at Tokyo Disneyland Toon Town

Since yesterday we had a lot of news about upcoming attractions - see previous article below - and the latest one is about TDL as Tokyo Disney Resort announced that the new Goofy’s Paint ‘n’ Play House attraction will open at Tokyo Disneyland Toontown on Aug 24. It's definitely an attraction for young kids but, still, any new addition is always welcome.

According to the Disney Parks blog "this Toontown attraction will allow guests to help Goofy redecorate his room in a unique and colorful fashion. Groups of guests will work together to “paint” the room using special paint applicators called Toontone Splat Masters. Guests simply aim at the wall (or furniture) they want to color and activate the applicators. The attraction will feature beach, jungle and other themes, as well as different Toontone Splat Masters, so guests can vary their choices."

That said, you might be curious to know how this Goofy’s Paint ‘n’ Play House works, technically speaking? Well, from what i've been told by a friend, it works with colors video projections on objects which are in reality in white color. A little bit the same principle than projections on buildings ( like on Magic Kingdom castles ) but with a much more sophisticated technology as the projections must be perfectly adjust with the outlines of the objects which are in the room. Not to mention that the guests are extremely close to the items and that they will identify the trick instantly if the adjustment was not perfect. So, when TDL guest will click on "red" Goofy's armchair, for instance, will appear instantly red, etc... With the new HD video projectors which are much more luminous the final result should be much better than a previous version of the same technology which was used some years ago at Epcot. Goofy’s Paint ‘n’ Play House looks like a fun addition for TDL Toon Town!
